Balance Through Exercise

Life is all about balance. Balancing work and social life, balancing friends and family, balancing class loads, or even balancing personal time with your significant other. It’s all about balance. But the balance I’m talking about here is between food and exercise. As much as I love to indulge in delicious food and wine, it’s important to balance it all out with exercise and physical activity. Whether it be running, dancing, playing volleyball, or just taking a brisk walk, it’s so important to incorporate physical activity into our every day lives. I have always been a pretty active person, but when I started my blog back in 2009 I became serious about running. I started participating in races and running half marathons. It was the thrill of racing that kept me going, and I felt like I could run forever.

Until I found out that I had 2 fractures in my ankle and needed ankle surgery. This caused me to be off my feet for about 6-7 months starting in January of 2010, and I am just learning how to walk normally again. It has been one of the hardest things for me as I love to run. I hope to run again soon, but only time will tell.

Before starting the blog I never really raced besides my cross country during my high school days. In 2006 I did, however, walk in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer with my mom. I never really thought anything of it at the time, but looking back, this was such an inspirational walk, and it meant so much to be able to do it with my mom. We completed the 26.2 miles in one day, and I felt so good when we crossed the Finish Line. To raise money for such a great cause and be able to walk 26 plus miles was a huge accomplishment for me. I hope to continue to participate in more walks and races like this in the future.

I love any activity outdoors, and I try to stay as active as possible when the weather permits. If it’s outdoors then I’m always up for it. It’s all part of living a happy, healthy, and balanced life!
