Totchos = Tots + Nachos
Who would have thought?
Tonic did!
There is one restaurant in Foggy Bottom that I always forget about. The place is called Tonic, and it is a 3 story restaurant located in the historic Quigley’s Pharmacy on the George Washington campus. It even has the old pharmacy sign above the front door.
The restaurant serves up traditional American comfort food, with a twist. Everything from burgers and pizza to meatloaf, fried chicken, and macaroni and cheese.
I’ve dined there a couple times, but this time the company was especially nice. We all started with a signature cocktail or one of the kraft beers on the restaurants extensive beer list.
Both times I’ve visited I went for the pizza and totchos. Which brings me to this amazing creation.
A layer of tater tots topped with all the original nacho toppings like taco beef, chicken, salsa, sour cream, guacamole, black beans, jalapenos and a melty lager cheese sauce. Finger lickin’ good!
They also offer Coney Island Tots that are smothered in jalapenos, chili, and beer cheese. I must check those out next time.
They have such a great menu with so many delicious options, but the last time I went I was in the mood for a pizza. So I ended up splitting The Lisner; Tangy BBQ sauce, grilled chicken, tomatoes, red onions & topped with cheddar-jack cheese. Before I took any pictures I was stuffing my face. I thought this would be similar to a BBQ Chicken pizza, and although it had a similar taste, it was SO much better. I loved the hint of sweetness, but the BBQ sauce wasn’t overpowering. It was really good.
I love everything about this restaurant. It’s such a fun and laid back atmosphere, and you forget you’re even on a college campus. They offer lunch and dinner and brunch on the weekends. And to top it all off they play a variety of great music, and the decor is both old and new DC with exposed brick in a fresh and trendy space. They even have a pizza named ‘The Lauren’ that comes with ham, jalapenos, and pineapple. Spicy and Sweet…dare I say it was meant to be for me?
This is a great spot to visit just for a drink, a casual date, or a tasty dinner out.

LOVE the totchos at Tonic! Their house wine on happy hour was quite good too (at least it was the last time I was there).
