It is HOT HOT HOT in DC! When it’s this hot outside I want something really refreshing to drink, and that is why I chose the La Formica Soave DOCG 2010 as my July wine of the month. This has to be hands down one of my favorite white wines this year.
Soave is a region in the Veneto in Northern Italy. The main grape grown there is Garganega, and this particular wine is made up of 100% Garganega.
“The 2010 Soave is 100% Garganega, Soave’s best grape, that’s all estate grown and made in stainless steel (no oak to mask the flavors). The color is classic Soave – golden yellow – as are the generous aromas of almonds, lemon zest, white flowers, honeyed peaches, and dash of fresh ginger. In the mouth, there’s the fantastic yin/yang of richness and zing that makes Soave so captivating. The texture is silky and round and coats your mouth completely, but the flavors are bright and fresh – almond, lemon, peach, honeysuckle and crystallized ginger. A delicious note of spicy pear emerges on the juicy, refreshing, finish.” -Chain Bridge Cellars
