I have a true fascination with Austrian wines. So far I haven’t tried one that I don’t like. Have you ever heard of these Austrian grape varietals? Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, or how about Grüner Veltliner? Well, the wine I’m featuring for the month of August is Steininger Young 2010, and it is an affordable blend of Grüner Veltliner, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscat that is one of my favorite summer ‘go to’ wines.
Bright yellow in color, this wine offers up fun fresh aromas of orange blossom and white pineapple. On the palate you get lemon zest and sweet melon. The wine has a good amount of acidity, but doesn’t leave your mouth feeling completely dried out. The acidity makes it a perfect summer sipping wine, but it can also be paired with chicken and fish dishes. Just try not to drink the entire bottle in one sitting!

I’ve never heard of those wines, but I tend to love German wines, so I’d probably like them. My favorite wines are definitely German Rieslings.
