I just got back from one of the best trips I’ve ever taken to New York City. We experienced things I’ve never done before. It was a much different experience going up with a friend and staying with friends than going up with family. I have such a great time with my family, but this was just different. We did the food tour, went to Brooklyn, had a great girls night out, and just had fun together. Everything worked out pretty perfectly…even the weather was beautiful. Sunny yet crisp and cool, which is unusual for summer in NYC, but I’ll take it!
Speaking of weather…summer is in full force here in DC. And when it gets hot out, there is only one thing I crave. Crisp White Wine. Well it’s not the only thing I crave in the summer…but it’s one of the things!
A wine that I just tried the other day that really hit the spot was Vina Sila Naia Verdejo Viura White Rueda 2009.
This is delicious refreshing white wine is 100% Verdejo and has this wonderful creaminess from 12% of the wine being fermented and aged Sur Lie in french oak, but also has this great minerality from the other 88% being aged in stainless steel.
Verdejo is a grape that has been the traditional grape on the left bank of Duero river since the Middle Ages. This wine is from Rueda, which is located West of Ribera Del Duero, East of Toro, and just South of the Duero River in Spain. It is a part of the country that is sprinkled with old castles and grazing sheep.
The Naia has refreshing flavors of grapefruit, kiwi, and a little cooked pineapple, but finishes with this wonderful exotic lingering dry finish. The wine is such a great summer wine for sipping on it’s own, but would be wonderful paired with a light, refreshing summer salad with some fruit and goat cheese or even with a light white fish topped with a fruited salsa.
Absolutely Perfect for summers at the beach, pool, or lake. I think I’ll go have a class tonight on my porch.

Loved this! I’m always looking for new wines to try (we’ve recently been completely addicted to all things red wine) so I’ll have to give this one a try!
YUM! Bring this to me!
