Matchbox

Even though I live fairly close to DC, I live in a part of town that doesn’t really have many great restaurant or bar options. That was until they built a Matchbox Restaurant right down the road. If you’re from the DC area you have probably heard of Matchbox, and their rave reviews.

I had never actually been to the restaurant itself and knew it would be a great place to meet my new blog friend, Amanda! I immediately loved the feel and atmosphere of this restaurant. I’ve heard the DC locations are even better, but this one was big, open and full of life.

I love meeting food bloggers, and getting to know them in person. It’s always nice to meet people you automatically click with. And even better when the conversation becomes more than just food blogging and you find out you click on other levels.

We had to wait a few minutes for our table so we grabbed a glass of Sauvignon Blanc at the bar to sip while we waited. I was pretty impressed with the restaurants wine list, especially being a chain.

Once we were seated I knew exactly what I wanted to order since my friend had given me numerous recommendations, and told me that I HAD to try the Crab and Avocado Salad. So I ordered that as an appetizer, and Amanda and I split the veggie pizza with arugula.

The the crab and avocado salad was certainly outstanding. But honestly I was hoping for more veggie options as far the pizza was concerned. It seemed to be limited to tomatoes, peppers, and onions.

Although I’m really not complaining as it was delicious. This restaurant has everything going for it. It’s fun, hip, has a great drinks menu, great food, and very good service. I have been waiting for a place like this to open up near me for a while. Definitely a place to come back to!
