I have to admit I’ve been in a wine rut. A Syrah rut that is. I try new varietals almost everyday, but for the past few months I’ve been sticking to the same old same old…Syrah! I can’t help that I know what I like, and I drink what I like. Don’t get me wrong I like many different wines, but if I’m choosing one to drink on a weeknight I’ve been choosing Syrah. So I decided to branch out from American Syrah and head over to Australia for some Shiraz. There have been a couple Syrah/Shiraz’s that I haven’t really enjoyed….
And there have been some that blew me away…
TWO HANDS ANGEL’S SHARE SHIRAZ MCLAREN VALE 2008
Two Hands Angel Share Shiraz is a beautiful expression of Shiraz from McLaren Vale. It has a nose of black currants, dark chocolate, a touch of peppermint, and a hint of black pepper. The wine itself is rich and quite thick yet extremely smooth. The tannins are fine and velvety. On the palate there are loads of dark berry fruits with bitter chocolate and mocha elements. The finish is long and dark with a touch of sweetness on the back.
It’s definitely a wine you can enjoy on it’s own, but would be wonderful paired with a piece of red meat-I’m thinking BBQ-or even dark chocolate. MMM
