Restaurant Week at B Bistro in Baltimore

by Lauren on January 24, 2011

Every time restaurant week comes around my friends and I always get together and pick out a restaurant we’ve been dying to try. It’s a great way to try new places, try three of their dishes, and pay a fairly low price. However, I will say, it can get quite expensive if you add wine. ;-)

Last night I met my friends in Baltimore at a restaurant called B Bistro. I let them choose the place since I wasn’t too familiar with many of the Baltimore restaurants. Located it a very quaint neighborhood, B Bistro was the perfect place to spend our night out.

It was very small, but also very warm and cozy, and a bit eclectic.

We ordered a bottle of the Montepulciano d’Abruzzo to start while we read over the menus. I was very impressed with their wine list.

Everything on the menu looked fantastic and hit our fancy so we asked the waitress for her advice and opinion. She was incredibly knowledgeable about all the dishes, which I always appreciate, and gave us her recommendations and top choices. If you’re not familiar with restaurant week this is how it works. You basically get to choose 3 dishes from a Prix Fixe Menu, and the cost is anywhere from $25-$35 for all three dishes depending on the restaurant. You choose one appetizer, one entree, and one dessert. Most of the time the dishes come straight from the restaurants regular menu, but every once in a while there will be special restaurant week dishes added as well.

After we all chose our starter, entree, and dessert we chatted over fresh bread and olive oil. Although I passed (after taking the picture) since I knew I had a lot of food coming.

All the plates were arranged beautifully, and we couldn’t wait to dig in. I started with the Slow Roasted Heirloom Beets with Roasted Pears, Whipped Buffalo Milk Cheese, and Candied Walnuts. This was a pleasant combination of sweet and salty, but I really loved the cheese plate, that my friend had ordered, as well.

For my entree I decided on the Braised Roseda Farms Short Ribs since they came with Polenta, Root Vegetables, and a Horseradish Gremolata.

The waitress had recommended the Cassoulet, which my friend ordered, and it was incredible. The duck that came with the Cassoulet literally melted in your mouth. The short ribs were good, but they were lacking a bit of flavor and only came with 2 small carrots when I was hoping for a little more root vegetables. But I still enjoyed the tenderness of them with the polenta.

I’m not really a dessert person, but when dessert arrived I knew it was going to be wonderful. It was easily my favorite part of the entire meal. And I’m more of a savory than sweet person. I ordered the Molten Chocolate Cake with Salted Caramel and Ginger Ice Cream.

And since I can’t have dessert with out coffee I ordered that too.

All the flavors paired so well together, and before I knew it my plate was clean. The ginger ice cream was so very interesting and was quite refreshing with the chocolate and caramel. It was truly a wild yet sensational pairing.

My friend ordered the Meyer Lemon Tartlet which was unique and very delicious. It was sweet yet still tart, and when I took a bite of the tart with the local honey it came with, my mouth was singing.

Again beautiful presentation with all the dishes. The restaurant is extremely cute, and the food was very good. I love having nights out with my friends like this, and B Bistro was a great place to spend it.

I actually went to Oya here in DC for Restaurant Week. Incredible and so decadent. I was so sad that I had forgotten my camera!
