For me food creates memories. Of course I remember traveling to certain places, and meeting certain people, but for some reason I always remember the food I ate. Especially when it was incredible.
I remember the time of day, the people I was with, the weather, the taste of the food, and the thoughts that surrounded the meal. It brings back a sense of happiness when I look back and remember a really great meal.
For instance, when I traveled to Northern California with my boyfriends family a few years ago, I remember a lot of the meals we ate because I remember the food being so very good. I remember the crepes we got at the Fisherman’s Wharf, I remember the taffy I bought from the candy store at the Fisherman’s Wharf, I remember wine tasting in Napa Valley, and I remember this one dinner we had the night we stayed in Sonoma.
It was a warm summer night, and we decided to eat at this chic pizza restaurant in Sonoma. The smell of the brick oven pizza was intoxicating.
I remember we started out with a beer and waited for a table for over an hour.
I remember we each ordered an entire pizza for ourselves and that way we could share and try each others pizzas as well.
I remember I got half veggie and the other half with pear, carmelized onions, and goat cheese.
I remember it tasting so incredible that I wished I had ordered the entire pizza with pear and goat cheese.
I remember each bite of the tangy goat cheese, and sweet pear on this perfectly baked crust.
I remember the wine being the perfect compliment to the pizza.
I remember not wanting to leave….
The other night got me thinking about that pizza and how much I wanted to go back to that restaurant just for another bite. But after a look in my fridge I discovered I had all the ingredients to re-create it on my own. I don’t know why I hadn’t done this sooner, but I couldn’t wait to taste it again.
Of course mine was not nearly as good as the pizza that night, but it definitely hit my sweet spot.
Goat Cheese and Pear Pizza
Serve 2-3Ingredients:
- 1 Whole Wheat Pizza Crust
- 2 Bartlett Pears
- 1/2 C Goat Cheese
- 1/4 C Mozzorella Cheese
- 1/2 C Sliced Purple Onion
Directions:
First you want to caramelize the onions in a pan with a little butter. Once the onions are opaque and tender, lay them out over the pizza crust. Slice the Bartlett pear thin, and lay the slices over the onions. Add the crumbled goat cheese around the pizza, and finish of with the mozzarella. Bake in oven at 350* for 15-20 minutes or until cheese in melted and crust is cooked through. Let cool for a couple minutes, slice, and serve. Eat with glass of wine and picture yourself in Sonoma Valley.Copyright © 2011 Eat, Drink, and Be Hopeful All Rights Reserved

GREAT idea….and I just so happen to have whole wheat crust in the freezer!
One of my favorite food memories is probably my mom’s homemade lasagna. Tons of cheese, sauce, and ooey gooey goodness. MMm. MMmm. mmm.
This pizza would be perfect with a balsamic reduction for a sauce. Don’t you think?!?
