Last Saturday Chris and I had big plans to attend the Uncorked event to taste some wine and see his step-dad’s cooking demonstration. However, we couldn’t handle the crowds of people trying to taste Maryland wine so we decided to only stay for the cooking demo instead. Something about the heat and waiting in crowds of people didn’t really go over well with me. But the cooking demo was an absolute blast.
Even though we didn’t taste any wine I recognized a lot of the wineries there.
I try to attend as many of Chef Patrice’s cooking demo’s as possible because I learn a lot and think they are so much fun. This time he made a puff pastry shell filled with wild mushrooms ragu, Napolean of salmon and corn blinis with vanilla buerre blanc, and caramelized apple in a thin crepe with bourbon sauce. I know…right? Incredible!
The demonstration was a lot of fun and doesn’t require much explaining so I will leave you with some pictures. I even got my 15 minutes of fame. I see a job in the future!
And the end result…
Chef Patrice will be appearing at the San Diego Food and Wine Festival this November. I wish I could go, but unfortunately I have to work.
If you attend the event and see him, make sure to say hi!
Not only was there cooking demos and wine to taste, but there was so much more.
And after all the fun at Uncorked was over Chris and I headed to a new restaurant called Carbon Peruvian Chicken and Grill. I was just introduced to Peruvian chicken this year by Chris’ family, and I really enjoyed it. Even though the chicken is the main event at Carbon, I wanted to get a sandwich that the waitress recommended to me. The sandwich is called Pan con Chicharrón and is Pork chicharrón, fried sweet potato, and sarza criolla. Basically slow roasted pulled pork, fried sweet potatoes, and sautéed onions..do I need to say more? The sandwich was really delicious, but so big that I took half home to have for lunch the next day.
The sandwich came with a side salad and yucca fries.
If that wasn’t enough for you, later that night we headed to Chris’ parents house for dinner where Chef Patrice used some of the leftovers from today’s show for dinner. It was out of this world. I can’t tell you enough how great his food is. It is always flavored to perfection, grilled to perfection, and cooked to perfection.
We finished this fabulous day off with a small French chocolate and a little sip of Port. It was one food filled day…but a great day at that!
Have you ever attended a food and wine festival? If so, which one?
