Ready for a Recap

by Lauren on May 27, 2010

As I promised….here is the total WEDDING WEEKEND RECAP.

One of my best friends from college got married this past weekend in North Carolina. It was such a fun weekend to see my friends, and it was wonderful to finally meet her fiancé then, husband now. :-)

The festivities began on Friday morning. Rachel invited all of us to the Weathervane at A Southern Season for a bridal luncheon. We got there a little early so we started our morning off we some tomato juice bloddy mary’s. I think after I told them about my Bloody Mary at Woodberry Kitchen they had their taste-buds up for one.

Then we met up with Rachel and her family for lunch. I went with the well recommended Almond Tarragon Chicken Salad.

Chicken tossed in a tarragon dressing with toasted almonds on a bed of mixed greens with basil-balsamic vinaigrette

I also had 2 pieces of this amazing wheaty bread that looked like it had flax seeds in it.

Lunch was pretty darn fantastic.

(Side Note-we have a picture just like the one above at our graduation so we needed to re-create it)

We went back to the hotel and changed for the rehearsal and then drove to the site, which was so gorgeous. It was outside in this beautiful plantation like home that had a small vineyard, a garden, and a place for the ceremony as well as the reception.

We proceeded to meet the wedding party and rehearse for the next day. Then we all headed to downtown Durham to a restaurant called Revolution for dinner. I knew right away I was going to like this place.

It was very chic and hip and just my style. We mingled, got a glass of wine, and then the fun part…the FOOD! I rolled with the Albariño the whole night because it was refreshing and went really well with all my food choices.

It was a set menu, but you got to choose from 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts. I went with the Thai Shrimp Salad, the Red Snapper, and the Chocolate Cake.

Thai Shrimp Salad with cucumber, spring onion & spicy green chili vinaigrette

Sauteed Red Snapper with sugar snap peas & chili shrimp sauce

Bittersweet Chocolate cake with shaved coconut & mango sauce

Luckily my friends love food almost as much as I do so we all shared everything. I was stuffed by the end of the meal, but it was a wonderful stuffed since the food was really good.

Saturday was the BIG day! We helped Rachel get ready…

…then the bridesmaids went with Rachel to take pics, and Kristen and I headed to get some lunch at Bahama Breeze. Saturday was also my birthday so I celebrated with a birthday cocktail… Bahama Breeze’s famous Mojito.

I also went with the fish tacos and the tortilla soup sans cheese. It was much more food than I had expected, but everything was really tasty. The fish tacos were my favorite.

…and then it was time. I will let the pictures tell the story. That is the best way after all.

And then it was time to P-A-R-T-A-Y!!!!

Dinner was good old fashion Southern food.

BBQ chicken and beef, macaroni and cheese, hush puppies, baked beans, salad, and sweet tea

I have to say this is not the type of meal you would normally see at a wedding, but it was actually really really good! I love comfort food, and this was comfort food at it’s best. It was better than the food at a lot of other weddings I’ve been too.

Chocolate mint cake with a butter-cream frosting and chocolate ganache

I shared a piece of cake with my friend since I was pretty stuffed after that dinner.

We didn’t stop the pouring down rain from letting us have fun. We still danced the night away. Instead of a band or DJ, Rachel and Joshua had an ipod, and it was a great way to hear all the songs we wanted. They played some really great music!

Rachel and Joshua are maybe the cutest couple I have EVER seen. They are loving, caring, kind, and just down right wonderful. They are the kind of people that make you feel good just being around them. Their wedding was beautiful, and I was so impressed how well they did putting it all together. They put this entire wedding on themselves (with a little help from family, but mostly by themselves), and it was stunning. I was so happy to celebrate their day with them, and I wish them many many many wonderful happy years together.

Congratulations Rachel and Joshua!!!!
