The Difference a Day Makes

by Lauren on April 1, 2010

Today I woke up early early to go to the hospital to get my *cast* off and my stitches out. I was so nervous because like I have said over and over again, I hate anything with hospitals, pain, needles, stitches, I hate it all. It makes me sick to my stomach! However, I was strong, and got the job done.

The funny thing is I almost forget how to use my foot. It’s been months since I’ve walked on it, and 2 weeks since I haven’t even moved my toes. It’s the strangest feeling, and I’m so scared to do anything. The doctors gave me yet ANOTHER boot, and I have to stay in this one for 4 more weeks. This is the never ending fracture story! Luckily I don’t need crutches or my scooter, but I have to ease myself into walking on it again. I’m so scared that I haven’t gotten up the courage to do it. The boot actually hurts my ankle so I’m so scared to even put it on. I’m hoping some of the swelling will go down overnight (since it’s been wrapped up for 2 weeks) and won’t hurt as much tomorrow.

In grosser news, my leg is extremely dry, and has lost all of it’s muscle. It looks so weird next to my other one feels all jiggly. I can’t wait to use it again and build up that muscle. I don’t want lopsided legs!

Now that I ruined you appetite, let me show you some eats. I’m REALLY gonna make this quick because we are about to watch Sherlock Holmes.

Even though I was upset after my appt this morning (I mean 4 more weeks in a friggin boot?!?!), and I had a few mini breakdowns today, my eats were wonderful! I was very pleased with my new *plan* to get back in shape. Even if I can’t run or do cardio for another month, a lot can be done just by cutting back on some of my eats, and making healthier choices. Are you with me? So here goes…

Ok this was from yesterday, but it was so so good, I had to show you. These Kettle Cuisine’s have been the perfect lunch for me this week. This one was slightly sweet, but savory, and creamy. Oh I was in heaven.

This morning I had COIAJ-translation-Chia Oats in a Jar. Oats mixed with Almond Milk and Chia seeds in an almost empty Raw Almond Butter Jar mixed in with fresh strawberries and blueberries. These strawberries were some of the sweetest strawberries I’ve had, and I didn’t even have to add sweetener to this. COIAJ with a Cherry Mint Metromint water on the side because I LOVE. Oh, I love so much the Metromint.

Lunch-hearty, all natural chili and fresh broccoli. Obsessed with this combo-need I say more? Kettle Cuisine did my right again. And the best thing is there are no fillers in the soups, just all natural ingredients.

Dinner was a randomly put together meal that turned out quite good. Shrimp Salad inspired by the Ina Garten recipe I made before except there was no onion, no dill, and I substituted the mayo for Nayonaise and the orange for a Meyer Lemon. It was so refreshing, and very light. I had received a comment on my shrimp salad post last time about canola oil, and I did some research on it, and decided it was probably best not to use canola oil or canola mayo anymore. Anyone know the details about canola oil? Is it as bad as they say it is? Anyways-I think Nayonaise tastes just like Mayo and seems to be a lot better for you. Asparagus and yellow squash on the side for some veg-ness.

So that is all today. I’m really trying to get through this injury and come out on top, but every day is a struggle. Tomorrow I go back to work, and my life kind of *starts* again. But it’s about time because I need to get movin’ again. Have a great night!

Oh girl, my thoughts are with you!!! “Never ending fracture…” <- story of my life! At least lately. And the walking boot sucks but at least you can walk and don't need crutches!!! That's a blessing!! You're doing awesome and you're going to come through this on top, I know it!! And I think you and I should have a celebration when we are both all healed. God knows we are going to deserve a celebration after all of this!!!!

Hey, this is my first time at your lovely blog…so sorry to see that you are injured. My sister fractured her foot and is currently using a walking boot and she says that it has actually helped her with the pain. She has healed really quickly with it. I’m not sure if this is the case for everyone though, just thought I would share something positive about it, since you seem so distressed to have to wear it. Anyway, I hope that helps and I hope you heal quickly!
