I <3 (heart) Barney Butter and Rockfish Grill

Sorry no bloggie post yesterday. It was a busy day with lots of good food and fun. It started when I woke up with every intention of going to LuluLemon yoga. I really have no excuse since all I have to do to get there is go down the elevator of my parents condo, out the front door, and it is literally next door. So I got my yoga clothes on, and headed down at 8:58am (class started at 9am and I figured people would still be getting there). Well I was wrong. They had already started, door was locked, and the place was packed. So much for my yoga this morning. I was really bummed too since I’ve been meaning to try this class out for months now! So instead I went to the condo gym and did about 40 min of working out. I did various strength and core exercises, power walked, and mildly ran on the treadmill. The cardio portion was not very strenuous, but the strength training portion was quite a workout. I really pushed myself and it felt good. This is my very first time running since I hurt my ankle back in November so I was very careful to take it slow and just do a little bit. The doctor said I needed to start off extremely slow…like I’m talking…a few feet, a few yards, and then maybe a mile. I got up to a mile today, and I started to feel my ankle pull so I slowed down and stopped. I don’t want to over do it, but I need to get back into it soon! I wore my ankle brace like the doctor said, and I think that really helped. I had forgotten how much I loved running. Maybe this little break was worth it!

By the time I was finished my work out I was pretty hungry, but I knew I didn’t want anything too heavy since I ate such a huge dinner the night before. I brought a pack of Barney Butter that I received as a sample a while back, and have been meaning to try it.

I’ve seen this stuff everywhere on the blogs and have no clue where to find it. My breakfast was as simple as they get. A piece of Arnold Whole Grain bread toasted with Barney Butter, and a banana.

See-I told you-SIMPLE!

I was so surprised at the consistency of this almond butter. It was smooth, creamy, and tasted amazing! By far the best almond butter I’ve ever had. I wanted more, but there was only enough for the one piece of bread. This stuff knocked my socks off, and I really need to get my hands on some.

After running to the mall and a few other place with my mom we were ready for a warm lunch. It was absolutely freezing outside, and the only thing I could think about was soup. Luckily my mom had made some low fat cream of chicken with wild rice soup the day before. I had a big bowl of this delicious soup with half of a sweet potato leftover from my dinner the other night.

A perfect lunch for a cold afternoon.

We spent the rest in St. Michael’s where my parents are in the process of building a house. I think I worked up quite an appetite for dinner from all the shivering I was doing because . I had some crackers and wine before we left for the restaurant to take the edge off. The three of us decided on a restaurant called Rockfish that was supposed to be very good. A little more upscale, but not real fancy, and the food is delicious. I loved the decor and feel of the restaurant. It was dark with tons of candles and just had a very warm feel about it.

My mom and I decided to get a bottle of Arneis that was really nice. Lots of fruit, more acidity than I like, but otherwise it was wonderful. My parents got some oysters for an appetizer, but I’m not much of a raw oyster fan so I got the tuna sashimi. I was really in the mood for this for some reason, and it’s funny since I just went to sushi the night before.

Anyways this tuna was out of control. It was incredibly fresh and flavorful. Absolutely outstanding! I was in sushi heaven. For my entree I ordered the Surf & Turf.

I was in the mood for a little meat and a little fish, and everything on the menu looked incredible. Our waitress was great, and new the menu very well and told me that the rockfish was the signature dish. But for some reason I still wanted the surf & turf. So my dad ordered the rockfish, and I went with my gut and got the surf & turf.

Well, have I ever told you that I am the worst at ordering at restaurant and always choose the wrong thing? Well I do, and this was a perfect example. BAHHH!! The crab cake was so small, the meat had no flavor, the asparagus were not really hot, and the garlic mashed potato souffle was actually a small plate of extremely greasy mashed potatoes. The Bearnaise sauce that came on the side tasted like cream and had no flavor what so ever. But that doesn’t mean this restaurant isn’t good because I tried a few bites of my dads rockfish with crab meat and was floored. It was so delicious that I wanted to trade dishes. It was fresh, and had a Caribbean flare to it. So So good! Oh and did I mention I got a side of fried green tomatoes?

Oh yea-those were good! I tried everything to make my meal good by trying different sauces, but it just wasn’t anything I would write home about. Oh well-better luck next time. Besides the dish I chose, the restaurant was just lovely, and I would definitely go back for the rockfish. The service was great, the atmosphere was great, and the food is great depending on what you get. I should have known from the name of the restaurant what to order. ;-) So that was my day in a nutshell.

This morning I woke up with a bit of a food and wine hangover. Just a slight one, nothing extreme. I didn’t sleep very well either so that could have added to me not feeling so well this morning. I made a green monster to get me back on track. I used a chocolate Amazing Grass Greens Packet, a banana, 8 oz fat free milk, and 3 huge handfuls of fresh spinach. Whipped it all up in my magic bullet for a detoxifying green monster.

Love the way these make you feel! That’s all for now. Hope you all had a great weekend!

I’ve been dying to try Barney Butter as well. I haven’t gotten around to ordering it because I just figured I could get almond butter at the store, but based on your description I’ve GOT to try it!

Sorry about your bad meal :/ Didn’t think you could go wrong with surf and turf. Ugh!

Oooh…I’ve heard of that place, but never been. I’m glad the food is great, though too bad yours weren’t stellar. At least you know what to order next time!

What a bummer that your food was not up to par–it just looks so delicious! But if your dads meal was good then hopefully they have a few other things that’ll be just as great next time.
