Dinner Delight

Work was seriously slow today. Good for me, not for the store. I was able to catch up on lots of special orders and paperwork that seriously needed to be done. I was also able to catch up on some things of my on…i.e. grocery list, PEOPLE reading, and of course blogging! I was quite upset with this weeks PEOPLE. I was so enraged with the main story that I was thinking about discussing it on the blog, but it has no place on my blog, and I don’t feel like giving Heidi Montag any attention that she DOESN’T deserve. So I won’t even get into it.

I desperately need to do some grocery shopping soon…hence making the grocery list today. The last time I went was about 3 weeks ago so I am very pleased I lasted that long! But I need to pick up some more fruit, veggies, and meats. With that being said my eats today were lacking a few important nutrients from fruits and veggies.

Lunch was some Healthy Choice Chicken Noodle and a big honkin’ plate of kale. I really wanted to make a big Green Monster this morning with the kale, but since the electricity was out I wasn’t able to use the blender. Next best thing? Bring kale to work and eat for lunch.

I lightly steamed this kale and added some balsamic and hot pepper flakes. I love that it is spicy from the hot pepper flakes and sweet from the balsamic. The perfect combo if you ask me.

Later in the afternoon I was CRAVING fruit so I ran hobbled over to the grocery store for a few apples. I only had half since this was one HUMONGO apple!

Honeycrisp are seriously the best!

For dinner we went to Chris’ family’s house for dinner. And I made a little video. Enjoy!

So maybe today wasn’t the BEST day to start this Clean Diet Challenge. I really had to practice moderation with this dinner. Patrice yet again did not disappoint. And this time I was able to watch him as he cooked the meal to get a few tips. Patrice cooks everything from scratch with all fresh ingredients. I think that is why I like his cooking so much. I had 2 olives and a piece of salame for an appetizer. The main meal was his famous Osso Bucco, home-made mashed potatoes, and brussels sprouts.

The Osso Bucco was made with tomatoes he canned himself, carrots, celery, onions, chicken bouillon, and other spices. Osso Bucco is braised veal shank, and is traditionally a dish from Milan, Italy. It was fall off the bone good. The potatoes were creamy and salty and had the most decadent velvety texture and just melted in your mouth. The brussels sprouts were sautéed with some ham, onion, and butter. They were a little carmelized and had the slgihtest taste of brussels sprouts. These little sprouts were seriousy good. Like so good I wanted seconds and thirds, but had to control myself.

After dinner we had some Camembert and French bread followed by a very small bowl of caramel ice cream. It was two spoonfuls to be exact.

This meal was SO good. I’m not making this stuff up. And yes, I may be biased, but this is the real deal people. Such a fabulous dinner for a Sunday night. I definitely left stuffed and happy. I always love tasting his creations because I know I will always be pleased. Thanks Patrice for yet again a fabulous dinner!

What a lucky girl you are to have a boyfriend with a stepdad who’s a chef! That meal sounds absolutely delicious! (And honecrisp apples are my FAVE.)

that Heidi Montag story was….unbelievable. I imagine she has incredibly low self esteem. She probably needs constant (male) attention to help with her insecurity. I bet she had a pretty bad childhood to be that screwed up. I’m trying to have empathy for her rather than be mad becasue you REALLY have to have a screw loose to mutilate yourself like that. Our young girls need to be told over and over again that they look just fine the way they are.
