I was going to wait until the end of the weekend to do my full weekend recap, but when I woke up this morning to lots and lots of snow, I couldn’t resist posting about it. So here is a quick recap minus a few things since the last time we ‘talked’.
I had a snack of dark chocolate and caramel with coffee Thursday Afternoon. This chocolate it sinful! I ate 2 pieces after lunch and 2 after dinner.
Dinner was the same as the night before. Sorry for the repeats. Lots of zucchini and squash, rice, and black eyed peas with marinara sauce on top. This time I added a little cheese because it was just so plain otherwise.
Friday morning I went to visit my grandmother who is turning 82 on Sunday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM MOM!!! I packed a quick brekkie for the car ride since I was running late (what else is new?!?!?!). Coffee, Kashi Heart to Heart Toasted Oats, and almonds.
I didn’t get around to eating the almonds. Just wasn’t hungry from that big dinner the night before. On my way back from seeing my grandmother, I saw this market I have been wanting to stop in for a while. It’s called Root’s Market. Heard of it before? It’s a local and independently owned market that specializes in natural, organic, gourmet foods and products. Because it is local and independently owned, it has all the same products as Whole Foods, but is a lot cheaper!
I fell in love with this place as soon as I walked in. Tons of bulk foods, tons of all natural, organic foods, tons of cheeses, and wines, and healthy stuff, but WAY cheaper. A lot of times they would have Whole Foods price comparisons to let you know they were cheaper. Of course I picked up a bunch of goodies, but I will definitely be going back there next time I need to go grocery shopping. While I was there I picked up coupons, recipes, and lots of samples.
Friday night I rested my ankle-it gets better than worse-and Chris and I got take out from Fontina Grill. I had a beautiful salad, and completely forgot to take a picture of it. Let me paint you a picture. It was grilled romaine, feta, cucumbers, green peppers, purple onions, green olives, and pepperoncini peppers with an olive oil vinaigrette. This is my favorite salad from Fontina Grill. It is so good everyday. I also had some home made sweet potato fries on the side. Chris and I spent our Friday night watching The Polar Express. We are super fun aren’t we? LOL.
This morning I woke up and was playing on my computer when I noticed something moving through the blindes. Once my eyes focused in on it I realized what I was seeing was SNOW! I couldn’t believe it. I knew the forecast called for snow, but I never thought it would be snow like this! The thick big powerful snow. It was absolutely gorgeous, and I just squealed for a good 10 minutes. I’m a little embarrassed how I look in this picture, and am putting everything out there. It is a great picture of the snow though, and what can I say-I’m cheesy like that!
For breakfast I had 2 leftover pomegranate waffles with maple syrup. I usually don’t mind when food is frozen, thawed, and cooked, but these were kind of gross. Really gross actually. I ate them because I had nothing else, and I hate wasting food, but yuck!
The snow is still falling, and Chris and I are about to get ready and go Christmas Shopping. I have a lot to get at the mall. After a little shopping we are heading to his parents house and then to Old Town Alexandria for the Christmas boat show. I hope it is still on. Supposedly all the boats on the water decorate with lights and they create a big parade on the water. There is even a visit from Santa! haha. It should be a good time.
See you back tomorrow for a recap.

That is some serious snow! Jealous of that supermarket….Whole Foods is SO ridiculously expensive.
That snow is awesome! It puts me into a proper festive mood!
Enjoy your winter wonderland!
Have fun at the boat show, it sounds really cool!
Love your Blog! I will definitely add you to my Roll – thanks for the email!! – I don’t know if you’ve had time to check mine out (not nearly as good as yours of course
) – but if you do , add me to your Roll too
!
I adore chocolate and eat it, uh, all the time ?
ROOTS!! Oh my Gosh – when I lived out West, there was a ROOTS organic store on the 1rst floor of my apartment building (they moved to a different location later)…but I loooved it! The produce was great, and they had a restaurant and mini-deli there too. The pizza there was amazing. Oh, and their vegan oatmeal-chocolate chip cookies and quiche…okay I must stop talking about it now…haha. I haven’t really been able to find anything to match that after coming out here to be honest…hmm, move back out West?! …I’d prefer California though if that’s the case given the snow
Yummy looking waffles!
