It's the Holiday Season

by Lauren on December 15, 2009

Wow-I can barely find the time to blog right now. This holiday season has been go go go for me. How about for you? Are you having a relaxing holiday season or a busy one? The funny thing is all my holiday plans keep getting canceled due to the weather. I was supposed to go see a holiday boat light show that was canceled due to snow, and I was also supposed to go to the Mormon Temple with my family and Chris’ family that was canceled due to rain. I’m going to try meeting my mom at the Mormon Temple on Thursday and pray for no rain.

Work was non-stop today. Literally did not sit down. It was crazy. We ordered pizza for lunch. We ordered a veggie pizza with eggplant, spinach, onions, peppers, black olives, and tomatoes, and a BBQ chicken pizza. I LOOOVE pizza. I think I’m eating way too much these days, and I must cut back.

But when I got home I had an awesome surprise waiting for me. My Bloggie Secret Santa had sent me my holiday package.

I was so excited I could hardly contain myself. I quickly opened the package and discovered some awesome treats. Heather from Heather Eats Almond Butter was my Secret Santa, and she sent me some kick ass stuff. Coffee…my FAVE and a necessity in my life. Heather-I’m always looking for good coffee so I can’t wait to try this! Chocolate, Organic dried plums, and some delicious Maple Nut Oaties.

I immediately tried one of these babies and fell in heaven. Heather-I found this recipe on your blog, and can not WAIT to try it myself. These things are so so so so good!!!!! I had another one for dessert. I absolutely loved everything in my package, and was so thankful to be involved in a special event with other bloggers. Thanks Heather for everything…you are the best!

Chris and I started our dinner with a glass of red wine. I am really into red wine during these colder months. It is so comforting to me. The wine we had tonight was Owl House Red. Very similar to a Rhone blend. Juicy, a touch of fruit, and a touch of earth, but very soft.

Dinner tonight was roasted pork, steamed green beans, quinoa, and fall squash.

I can’t remember the name of this squash, but I got it a while back at Balducci’s and decided to cut it up in strips and make squash fries out of them. This was very similar to the carnival squash and was sweet and tender on the inside and crispy on the outside.

The pork had a honey bourbon rub on the outside which I also sprinkled on my quinoa.

I tossed the green beans in some olive oil salt and pepper.

Everything was so great. Really nice winter dinner.

Hope you are all having a great start to your week. Thanks again Heather for the great gift!!!!

So glad you enjoyed your goodies. The Maple Nut Oaties are so simple to make, and oh so yummy. That is my favorite coffee – love love love Drew’s Brews. Hope you enjoy it.

Your dinner looks so good. Bourbon rubbed roasted pork and Fall squash fries? Can I come over for leftovers? ;)
