Oi vai

When I finished work it was absolutely pouring outside. There was no chance I was going to run in that. I feel like I am stuck between a rock and hard place because the weather really determines most of my workouts and 100% of my running. I don’t have a gym membership, and I really don’t want to get one ( I hate paying to work out), and my community gym is literally like 2 treadmills circa 1995. Its awful. It is a few machines in a tiny little room and 50% of them are usually broken. So what do I do? On top of that I’m really worried because now the weather forecast is calling for rain on Saturday…my RACE DAY! I am really getting aggravated with all this rain!

Then it took me an hour and a half to get home (when it usually takes 25 min), and I was going crazy in the car. My stomach was grumbling, and I needed something. I remembered I didn’t eat the pineapple or carrots that I had brought today (since I had originally brought my dinner to work) so I munched on those in the car. That wasn’t enough. So I pulled out the mini whole wheat pita. I know this seems like a lot before dinner, but I was seriously going crazy in the car just sitting in traffic. I am just happy they were healthy options. This held me over until I got home, but I couldn’t wait to eat dinner.

I didn’t get home until 7:30pm so Chris and I decided to order Chinese because we have been craving it for a while. I know there are healthier options, but when I crave Chinese I crave the ‘good’ stuff. I didn’t take pictures, but I had 1 egg roll, 6 pieces of General Tso’s Chicken (it’s my favorite), some chicken fried rice, and regular white rice. It was about 1 plate full of food. I LOVE chinese, and I have a really hard time saying enough is enough. But tonight I did very well, and I had my one plate and put the rest away. It tastes so good sometimes I could eat the whole thing. It was hard for me to put it away, but I did. If I had to do it all over again I would have had 1/2 an egg roll and a little less rice. But I still did better than I usually do.

I still had a sweet tooth later so instead of making pumpkin granola like I said, I made some pumpkin ice cream instead. I have been thinking about making this for a while, and I finally did it. Boy was it tasty. I used frozen banana, low fat Ricotta Cheese, unsweetened almond milk, and organic pumpkin puree. I had a tiny bowl full (about 1/2 C) topped with some cocoa nibs, and put the rest in the freezer for another time.

The rest of the night was spent like this

(check out the Halloween decorations?)

I had a big mug of Peppermint tea and tried to relax after a long day of work, and a long time driving in the car. I wouldn’t normally order Chinese, but I am trying to teach myself moderation, and that I really CAN have anything I want, but in moderation. I love food, and I have a hard time with this. This is a healthy lifestlye blog, but its also a blog about good food, wine, and traveling. It is a blog about how I stay healthy while still enjoying some of the best food, the best wine, and great traveling. I am going to be really tested in the next month because I will be enjoying two amazing dinners for work. These will be multiple course meals at some of the best restaurants in DC. I am going to have to practice moderation at both these dinners since wine will be accompanied by every course. I will have more info to come, but here is a sneak peak:

November 6th-Michel Richard’s Citronelle -Wine dinner
November 8th-Belga Cafe-Staff dinner

I can’t wait to fill you in more about these dinners with menus and wine pairings, but I can promise you they will be ridiculous (in a good way :-) )

In other news- I have been talking to Chris about Fitbloggin ’10, and I have decided that I really want to go. It takes place in Baltimore (I live very close), and I wouldn’t even need a hotel. The only problem is having to pay for the conference. So I’ve been talking to Chris about it and he willingly said he would split the cost with me. How can I say no to that? I am so excited because I love meeting people with the same passion as me, and I can’t wait to meet other food bloggers!!!!

As for tomorrow-I’m just going to wait to see if it is raining. If it is raining hard then I will do a Jillian Michaels DVD (not the 30 day shred, but a longer one). If it is not raining too badly, then I will conquer my 7 miles. I normally wish for the rain so I have an excuse not to run, but I’ve changed, and now I am craving a good run! I love that I’ve changed. And I love that I didn’t over eat Chinese food tonight because I feel so much better going to sleep.

NIGHT!
