Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse…

(Again-another post where my pics got lost. These may be copies of pics from another post )

As you read earlier-I didn’t have the BEST start to my morning. So I decided to make myself a nice breakfast and watch Gossip Girl. I also cut up all the veggies for dinner so when I get home tonight all the prep work is done!

Check out my cool Halloween Inspired breakfast.

Pumpkin Oats with a little Vanilla Oikos and dried cranberries. I topped the oats with a little Agave as well.

I love things with my Initials on it. I also have a water bottle with an “L” that I love.

So things were go well, and then I got a phone call from my co-worker asking where I was. I was supposed to be in at 10 today NOT 11. Oh goodness. So I ran out the door and headed to work. Luckily I was already dressed and my lunch was already made.

I get to work and find out that something I was supposed to do yesterday didn’t get done, and I had to rush to finish it. Already feeling upset with myself for being late I got really down on myself for not completing a task. I am very organized, and I always finish everything I am asked to do, but this one just fell through the cracks.

Once the task was complete I went downstairs to grab a new Kombucha tea that I have been dying to try. I was actually craving it at the moment. I took it out of the refrigerator and it just slid right through my fingers. CRASH on the floor in a million gazillion little pieces. Tea was everywhere. This is when I paused and said “Really? Is this REALLY happening to me today?” I was upset that I just dropped a drink and had to clean it up, but even more upset that it was a FOUR DOLLAR drink!

I know that these issues are small, and things couldn’t be A LOT worse, so now I am trying to stay positive and tackle anything this day plans to give me. I also did some thinking while I was having breakfast and wrote down some positive things to help me get through my race on Saturday WITH OUT my iPod.

  • This will make you stronger
  • This is a challenge that you can overcome
  • This is a new experience
  • You will be more in tune with your running and what is going on around you
  • You have run before with out head phones
  • There will be a ton of people and distractions to keep you occupied
  • You are capable of doing this

Can you tell I am EXTREMELY nervous about this? I’m nervous about the whole event on Saturday. It is going to be massively packed, I would like to beat my time from last Saturday, and I can’t wear my iPod. I am going to just focus on the goal and that is finishing. I am going to train well this week, try not to stress, and just be happy that I can participate in an wonderful event like this. I know it will all work out in the end!!

Hi Lauren,

If it’s any consolation to you I was really nervous when I had to do my first 10K run without music, but I found I kept a more even (faster) pace because I wouldn’t slow down or speed up depending on what song was on. I was also better able to judge how hard I was working because I could actually hear my own breathing. It was a very calming experience and I now do about 50% of my runs without my iPod by choice!

Plus, there’s nothing quite like hearing the sound of all those feet pounding the pavement at the begining of a race :)

I would try to think of some good mantras, and also maybe some counting games, ryhmes or song lyrics you can repeat in your head if you need a lift.

But you can definitely do it – think of the olympic marathon runners :)
