Happy Halloween Month!

I can’t believe it is October already!!!

Where has this year gone? As it gets colder outside the harder and harder it is to wake up early in the morning and convince yourself it is a good idea to run. This morning was rough. I set my alarm for 6:30 but as soon as it went off I reset it for 7:30. I was too tired and too cold to get out of bed. Last night I didn’t get home until about 9:15 and then I stayed up watching Biggest Loser and the Ruins on MTV. I can’t help but get suckered into TV at night. So it was VERY hard to peel myself off the sheets this morning.

Last night I laid all my clothes out like I normally do.

This usually helps me get up because I see my clothes and think..”ok you HAVE to do this”. The clothes just sit there and stare at me until I put them on. Otherwise I just lay in bed thinking about it until it drives me crazy and I get up and put them on.

But this morning it took me forever to actually get up. I put my running clothes on and washed my face (another ritual to help me wake up) and then I stood there staring at the bed. Oh decisions decisions. I literally got BACK in bed with my running clothes on and it felt so good. So warm and comfortable. But then the thought of my 1/2 marathon this weekend, and it was just eating me away inside. I thought about what Jillian said on Biggest Loser about choices. And how your choices affect your goal. So I chose to get up and start my morning warm up routine because I was going to run this morning.

My warm up routine is 60 kneeling push-ups (done the right way), and 120 leg lifts on each leg. This routine really gets me going. So I laced up my shoes and went for it. Oh man was it cold this morning-there was frost on the cars. I didn’t expect it to be THIS cold. But I just ran. I ran and ran and ran. I wanted to accomplish 9 miles, but instead I went for 10. I was really proud of myself for finishing the entire 10. By the end of the 10 I didn’t feel horrible and it gave me enough hope that I can finish the 13 miles this weekend just fine!

I felt really good this morning besides having a runny nose the ENTIRE time because it was so cold. I popped 2 Gu Chomps at mile 5 and mile 8. These helped a little, but I really am not a fan of the flavor. I would just throw them away and go back to my Luna Moons, but I hate throwing food away-even if it is an energy chew!

So here are my stats from my delightful 10 miles this morning.

  • Distance: 10.13
  • Time:1:32:00 (exactly again! Whats up with finish right at the minute!?!?)
  • Averafe Pace: 9:05min/mile

I couldn’t believe my average pace when I saw it. My miles were either above 8:45 or under 9:15. I was soo impressed! Go me! My foot did start to bother me around mile7 but it is more annoying pain that hurt pain. I’ll just have to keep soaking it in an Epsom salt bath until I figure out what is going on with it.

Breakfast is still in the works, but coffee is a MUST this morning! And in lieu of Fall I am having it in my adorable pumpkin mug!

P.S. Random Side note-I absolutely love this time of year. I missed fall and winter when I lived in LA because it is always spring or summer over there. I love fall and seeing all the fall decorations while I’m running. Right now my neighborhood is starting to put out Halloween decorations. I just love to see what people come up with. I decorate inside my apt for fall, but haven’t gotten to it yet. Hopefully I’ll have time soon!
