Mini-Festival Extravaganza

by Lauren on September 20, 2009

Ok-I’m finally back. Like I said before-yesterday was CRAZY! So I left off after my run, and I was headed into the store work for our mini-festival. We had two importers tasting yesterday who happened to work here years ago. Needless to say many fans came in to see them. The festival was a success!

Here is Jonas from Vin de Terra Imports Tasting his Spanish gems.

And Max from Downey Imports tasting some awesome Italian wines.

Jonas also featured his Olive Oil, and we tasted out the Manchego and Mild Chorizo.

The Olive Oil that Jonas imports is called Cavaloca. The fresh Spanish extra virgin olive oil is on another level. Vin de Terra Importer Jonas Gustafsson found this small producer that makes olive oil in the style as wine. The richness is balanced by a clever lemon zest and a light olive salinity. The finish has delicious notes walnuts and pecans. It is smooth, creamy, delicate, and has a wonderful flavor, but doesn’t smack you in the face. Really beautiful.

Max tasted his wines with a little Piave, and Pecorino Toscano Fresco.

The festival was a HUGE success, and we were go-go-go- all day long!

My lunch was fairly simple. I did a Dr. Praegers California Veggie Burger on whole grain extra protein bread with some yellow squash. Oh, and don’t forget that mustard.

This was surprisingly AWESOME! I absolutely loved the flavor of these veggie burgers. I’m so getting them again. Dr. Praeger’s makes tons of other foods…I just wish my grocery store carried them. I’m dying to try them!

Later I had a few other snackies like raw broccoli, carrots, applesauce, and a few crackers. Oh, and how could I forget. My indulgence today was Sweet Leaf. I can’t help myself…its kinda healthy right?

For dinner we went to Chris’ family’s house for another outstanding dinner made by his step-father Patrice. By this time I was starving with a capital S. We didn’t eat until 8:45 pm, but it was SO worth it. Since we were all hungry Patrice put out some flat bread with ham and Gruyere cheese, but then came the REAL good stuff. We had scallops in some sort of sauce.

I don’t know what the sauce was, but it was
good. I think there may have been some leeks in there? And then the main course was butternut squash gnocchi and pork loin.

I know it is not the prettiest looking plate, but HOLY WOW! This gnocchi was freakin’ fantastic. So “melt in your mouth” good. I LOVE butternut squash anything, and this was AWESOME. He had sauteed it with some bacon. It was seriously perfect!

I was savoring every last bite. By the time I was done I was stuffed. Thanks again Patrice for an awesome dinner!!!

As soon as I got home I went straight to be bed and slept all the way until 8:20 this morning. I woke up feeling like a train had run over me. I decided to take the day off from running. Something has been on my mind about all this “healthy lifestyle” stuff and blogging that has kinda put me in a sour mood. I am not in the mood to get into it now, but I will discuss later. I’m off to finish work, and head to the grocery store later today.

See ya then!
