Surprise Birthday Success!

by Lauren on August 24, 2009

So remember yesterday when I said I was taking Chris (my boyfriend) out to dinner for his birthday? And then I said I had a lot of festivities planned for the day? WELLL…. I was planning him a surprise birthday party!! I had to do all the setting up and getting ready yesterday and I couldn’t post any of it on my blog because he occasionally checks it. Everything was great! The plan worked, he was surprised, and everyone had a great time.

The best of all…the food! Like I’ve been saying over and over again Chef Patrice Olivon is an amazing chef. We decided to have the party at Chris’ mom’s house so of course Patrice had to cook. I decided to choose a menu for the party, and I chose Chris’s favorite meal with a few other favorite dishes of his. Thank goodness Patrice was willing to cook.

This is how it went down. Basically I told Chris we were going out to dinner in Alexandria, VA, and his mom asked us to come over for a glass of champagne beforehand. Everyone would be at his mom’s house when we got there to surprise him. Yesterday Chris had to work so I picked the Pastries up from Praline and then drove to his mom’s house to set everything up. We worked up a sweat moving tables, and decorating, but it looked great.

We also included some Salmon to have a little something extra (as if we didn’t have enough food already).

And of course we had tons of beer, wine, and mixed drinks to go around. The food was delicious as usual, but my favorite was the butternut squash soup. This is a signature dish for Patrice. He makes the best out of anyone I know. Here is my plate. Not only beautiful, but delicious!

The party was great. It was a late night, and I feel bad for all the people that have to work today. Luckily I don’t so I’m just spending my day relaxing and waiting for the weather to cool down so I can go for a nice run! See you soon!

The food looks absolutely amazing! The Salmon looks delicious! Just need some good wine and your ready to go! Sutter home could be replaced with some really nice boutique wine that tastes like a million times better!
